Water Protector: Lee

Fond Du Lac, MN

In this interview Lee discussed how the Stop Line 3 movement is part of a larger battle by indigenous people and allies against Enbridge and Climate Change. She point out how the continued use of pipelines threatens to contaminate water and land as Enbridge pipelines have spilled various times including the 6b oil spill in Kalamazoo, MI (and I will also mention here the spill in Grand Rapids, MN). The aging existing pipelines including Line 5 threaten to spill as they extend past their planned usage, and replacement projects increase the carbon footprint and ensure continued dependency on fossil fuels. Lee explains how the Direct Action tactics of the movement to delay construction are akin to “financial warfare” and notes that recently Enbridge stock has dropped.

Finally she shares her vision for victory, a vision that includes intentional communities, sustainable energy, and unlearning some of the ways we have been conditioned under capitalism.
